One of South Korea’s most famous veteran singers to date, BoA, is celebrating the 20th anniversary of her debut this month. At the end of July, her long-time entertainment agency, SM Entertainment, launched the project “Our Beloved BoA” to honour this milestone by releasing covers of some of her biggest classics.

BOL4 is the second artist in line for SM Entertainment’s homage to BoA with the remake of the 2003 song “Atlantis Princess.”

Ahn JiYeon’s sweet vocals suit perfectly, don’t you agree?

On August 7th, a trendy, retro-funk “Atlantis Princess” was reborn accompanied by the unique vocals of Ahn JiYeon. Even though its style got a little fresh, modern touch, the overall feeling of the single stays true to its original version. Since its release, the remake has remained strong on top of every Korean music chart.

At the end of last month, EXO’s BaekHyun did a live cover of BoA’s “Garden in the Air,” a track included in the 2005 best-selling album, “Girls On Top.” This album became BoA’s last release in South Korea for five years until her comeback in August 2010 with “Hurricane Venus.”

During her inactivity period in Korea from 2005 to 2010, BoA kept active in the Japanese music market and attempted a breakthrough in the American market. As a matter of fact, it was during this time that I discovered her music. I remember being obsessed with “Eat You Up” and attempting to do the choreography.

Wow. BoA has always been so beautiful. Such simple beauty.

Next, Gallant, SM Classics and Red Velvet are expected to also participate in the project by covering “Only One,” “Tree” and “Milky Way” respectively.

BoA’s official debut date is August 25th. Her last release was “Starry Night — The 2nd Mini-Album” on December 2019.

Do you think she will make a comeback this year to celebrate her 20th anniversary?
