South Korean superstar, BoA, celebrated her 20th anniversary this past Tuesday, August 25th. Since her debut in 2000, BoA Kwon has captured the hearts of millions of fans around the world. At one point, she was even dubbed by her fans as the Korean Britney Spears, but we can all agree now that she is on her own category now.

For the past three weeks, SM Entertainment, BoA’s agency for her entire career, has been releasing a series of covers of some of BoA’s biggest classics performed by today’s biggest artists. So far, we have seen amazing remakes by EXO’s BaekHyun, BOL4, and Gallant. This week, the penultimate gift was delivered in the form of Red Velvet’s rendition of the 2003 song, “Milky Way,” which was part of her third studio album, Atlantis Princess.

As with previous releases from the project Our Beloved BoA, the Red Velvet members give a live performance of the song in the music video. The remake does not have as strong a pop vibe as the original song — it’s a little calmer and more R&B and Jazz in style.

They look and sound lovely. As time goes by, I grow fonder of these ladies’ talent. By now, members Irene, Seulgi, Joy, Wendy and Yeri are not big strangers to the American market. Their appearance in the DreamWorks animated feature film, Trolls: World Tour, has garnered them and the KPop music scene much attention, more notably on the younger generation.

On the day of her anniversary, BoA posted a video for her fans thanking them for the support and love she has received all these years. She concludes with a promise to give us a 30th anniversary to celebrate in the future and give us even more amazing music to enjoy.

Watch the video below:

Isn’t she gorgeous? She’s barely aged.

And if you’re curious about the original bop, check it out here, too!

With only one remake left, “Tree” by SM Classics TOWN Orchestra, we are nearing the end of the project. The question I have had since the beginning of the project remains: Will BoA release a new single or album as part of her celebration?

Happy 20th anniversary, BoA!
