[New Music Mondays]

This year, MNH Entertainment started a new music project, New.wav, which they described as combining “the meaning of new music giving rise to a ‘new wave’ in the music industry and the music file format ‘.wav.’” The project was created to aim for more interaction with the fans by the agency artists through diverse music apart from their regular album releases. ChungHa is the second artist to be part of the lineup by making her 2020 comeback on leap day, February 29th, with the digital single “솔직히 지친다” or “Everybody Has.”

The music video features actress Jo BoAh, who currently stars on KBS2 Wednesday and Thursday drama, “Forest,” alongside actor Park HaeJin. The song, which is already number one on Genie Music Chart and among melOn’s and Naver’s top 50, is about feeling tired and portraying feelings of anxiety and stress we experience every day. Sometimes, it’s really hard to get out of that state of mind when we don’t have the motivation to go on. Not even other’s words and encouragement seems to ease our sadness.

***
너의 그 위로도 | Even your comfort
쉬어가란 그 말도 전부 나에겐 들리지 않았어 | Telling me to take a break, I didn’t hear it

이젠 다 지친다 | I’m exhausted now
날 향한 기대도 | Expectations for me
끝없는 노력도 | Are never-ending

잘할 수 있을까 | Can I do it?
그런 생각만 떠올라도 | Those thoughts that come up
눈물이 왈칵 차올라 온다 | Make my eyes fill with tears

솔직히 지친다 | Honestly, I’m tired
너보다 컸던 꿈도 | A dream that was bigger than you
이젠 다 지친다 | Is now so tiring
***

“Everybody Has” is another great addition to the mental health awareness music that has been surging up so much recently in kpop. Artists more and more are starting to open up about expressing their mental health hardships to the public whether it’s through their music or by openly stating a temporary hiatus due to mental health. With South Korea being among the countries with the highest suicide rates in the world, I’m very happy to see the entertainment industry trying to break the stigma about mental health and giving validity to the issue.

It is okay to feel anxiety, stress and sadness. We must always remember to acknowledge our feelings and take care of them when we need to. Tending to these needs is not a sign of weakness. Talk to someone close if you need support and be there for someone who needs it.

What’s stressing you lately?
