#NewMusicMonday — Standing Egg’s “I’m Dawn”
[New Music Monday]
Here’s another new release by my favorite indie eggs, Standing Egg. On February 23 (I know I should’ve posted this last Monday but I’ve been working my real job a lot, lately), they released a new single titled “I’m Dawn.”
The EP contains three different versions of the song including one with famous South Korean beauty vlogger, Dawn Lee, who was the main inspiration for this song. Back in February, Lee was diagnosed with lymphoma, a type of blood cancer, and has since constantly shared her chemotherapy experience and daily life through social media.
With a simple acoustic guitar as its only sound, the relaxing track begins with a sense of feeling hopeless, being done with everything, and wanting to give up. As the song progresses, it turns more hopeful, looking forward to a new day. After the night, the sun rises again — rays of white sunlight make dawn slowly break, eventually leading to a bright day.
해가질때 떠오르는 별처럼 | Like the star that rises when the sun sets
눈감을때 찾아오는 꿈처럼 | Like the dream that comes when I close my eyes
언제나 난 그자리에 있을게 | I’ll always be there
너의 기억속에서 | In your memory
I’m dawn
There really isn’t much to this music video. It’s a simple one-take video of the members singing and playing the guitar along a pier at the break of dawn. I can’t, however, really confirm if they are two of the three members of the group. No one really knows what they look like or even their names since the members of the group go by Egg 1, Egg 2, and Egg 3.
Standing Egg is the perfect example of simply enjoying music for what it is, without being concerned about the artist’s look or personal life. I love everything they release. They know how to hit the feels.
Waiting on this song to be available on the fruit music and Spot streaming apps to cry to it with ease when I need it. I do hope they are doing well and that the lyrics don’t mean anything too negative or worrisome is going in their personal lives.
Please send them your kind love and support always!
